First ride

These are my first ride impressions. First off, I bought these because they are Canadian and I support Canadian businesses. The ride was during a -10C 2.5 hour mixed trail ride in about 15cm of fresh snow on blue/black trails.

I wore a single layer of regular socks and found these boots to be snug at my normal size but not too small. The lace up system is great and they tuck under the top velcro top strap and stayed out of the way on the ride. They didn’t loosen up at all.

My feet stayed warm and dry the entire ride with no hint of my toes cooling off even with having to hop off and push the bike up some steep hills where I couldn’t get enough traction.

On downhills there is enough flexibility for heal down riding and I expect this will get better as the boots break in. I gave these boots four stars rather than five for one reason: I would prefer a more open hiking boot type tread. I found the treads packed up with snow and made climbing/pushing the bike uphill a bit slippery, though turning my feet sideways helped. I ride with Diety Deftrap pedals with spikes and found when the snow packed into the tread I sometimes had to work to get the tread to bite into the pedal. A more open tread would help this.

Would I buy these boots again? Yes.
Do I recommend them? Yes.
Is the tight tread pattern difficult to work around? No, it’s just something to be aware of.
